Airport has another fuel shortage; council could consider contract termination
The Covington Municipal Airport once again ran short on some of its fuel, and it appears airport operator Dixie Jet Services may have run out of second chances. The Covington City Council has once again summoned the company, this time to its Sept. 8 council meeting to discuss a failure to maintain an adequate supply of Jet A fuel.




Several people arrested, more wanted for fraudulently obtaining federal funding
Maureen Francois and Lamonitrias Smith have been arrested and six more people are wanted in Newton County for fraudulently obtaining federal funding for affordable housing.

NHCC has grand opening
 The Nelson Heights Community Center was packed to the brim Sunday afternoon, showing just how many people had played a part in bringing the project to life during the past decade. Representatives from the Newton County Board of Commissioners, Newton Recreation Commission, City of Covington, Washington Street Community Center and other groups attended to celebrate the grand opening of a center they hope will help revitalize the Nelson Heights and Green Acres neighborhoods.

Antwonette Thomas is a two-time AAU Junior Olympic National Champion in track and field. Thomas is a long running captain of the Track Phi Elite track club, which is based in Lithonia. The 11-year-old Thomas runs the 800m, 1500m and 3000m runs and has collected several state, region and national medals in her events.
